  最新式グレッグ速記法」 (小池喜三郎著) の初版は今から50年前の 昭和31年(1956年)10月20日 です。 小池喜三郎先生はこの初版本の発行に あたり、次の様な「はしがき」と「結論」を述べています。 50年後の現在 でも通用(?)すると思うので、原文のまま一部分を紹介します。 『やさしい 英速記』は昭和53年(1978年)の18版発行本も参考にしています。  この図書は絶版になっていますが、各都道府県の主要中央図書館で所蔵して いるのではないかと思いますので、一度調査して、内容をご確認ください。  英速記の学習のために、非常に役立つ図書です。

「はしがき」 : 私は道楽に英語の速記を始めた。 こんな面白い便利な ものはない。 特に生きた実用英語を使用するものにはぜひ必要である。  道楽に始めたものが止められなく、終に本物になって、今は生きた英語を 使う上にこんなに役立ち便利なものはないと、自分ながらも意外とする ところである。‐省略‐  速記がむつかしくて誰にでも容易に出来るもので ないと思っているものが多いが、それは遠い昔のことで、一度グレッグ式 速記法(Gregg Shorthand) を習ってみれば、これはほんとうに面白い もので、誰にでも容易に習い得るものであることがわかる。−省略‐

  独学で「英語力」を向上させる「コツ」の一つに英語の早口言葉 の反復練習 (声を出して!)があります。これらをマスターすると、 英語の発音がとても良くなります。

  2007年1月20日に実施された大学入試センター試験の英語の "Listening  Test” は2007年1月21日(日曜日)の新聞紙上(全国紙朝刊)に載っています。  ご参照ください。




  2006年1月21日の大学入試センター試験で英語の Listening Test が 実施され、国際社会での英語によるコミュニケーション能力が一層 重要視される時代になって来ました。英速記の練習例題にも使える問題が 含まれているので、「雑学講座・2006」の課題に取上げます。

Listening Test : Question No. 23 to 25

  In today's program, I'll tell you as amazing story about something that happened in Bermuda about fifty years ago. A powerful hurricane was approaching the island, so all the people was busy preparing to protect their homes against the strong winds and high waves that were sure to hit. As the storm swept within ten miles of Bermuda's coast, the winds bent the island's palm trees down to the ground. It was such a strong hurricane that destruction on a large scale seemed certain.

  Suddenly, the weather forecasters were shocked to find out that there was not one, but two powerful storms approaching the island. In fact, the first hurricane was being followed by an even more powerful one. The island appeared to be doomed.

  But then a very strange thing happened. The second storm came so close to the first one that both were thrown off course. The storms changed direction and blew out to sea where they wasted their force on the empty ocean. Glorious weather returned to Bermuda. Unbelievable as it sounds, the island was saved from one hurricane by another.

   My speech is about the trip I made to Europe last year. Last summer I decided to visit my cousin in Holland. There are direct flights to Amsterdam, where she lives, but I wanted to see France and Italy as well, so I caught a plane to Paris. I found a nice hotel in Paris that I liked very much, so I decided to stay longer and not go to Italy. After a week of visiting museums and shopping, I caught a train and went directly to Amsterdam. I really enjoyed that train ride!

He has to study with Yumiko in the afternoon, so he can't take the net down, but I'll be there by then, so don't worry. OK? Bye.

   This afternoon all new students are to go to the assembly hall to sign up for classes. If you haven't done so yet, go to the office first and pick up a copy of the course descriptions. Look through it and decide which classes you want to sign up for. Some classes are required, but there are others you can choose. Go to the assembly hall and get the teachers' permission for the classes you want to take. Then write your name down on the class lists.

Question : What must new students do at the assembly hall to sign up for their classes?
Correct Answer : Get permission from the teachers.

  最近の地球自然環境の激変現象を30数年前から予感していたような Mr. David Brower の "Friends of The Earth”の英文を 英速記の練習例題として取上げます。最近、地球規模で発生している 大津波、巨大地震、超大型ハリケーン、超大型台風、集中豪雨、大干ばつ、大洪水、 山火事、などなどは地球が悲鳴を上げて、 地球人に対して重大な警告(地球温暖化による天変地異) を発しているのではないかと思います。



Friends of The Earth

David Brower, the found of Friends of the Earth, explains his rationale for establishing the organization.



  Back in 1969, realizing it was time to stop working towards a moonlike earth, I started a new organization. We fished around for a name and came up with Friends of the Earth. It was essential that it be international in scope.

  With meetings in London, Paris and Stockholm, we were able to convince envioronmental people in three more countries now in the Friends of the Earth network were courted or courted us, and in no time the sun was rising somewhere on a Friends of the Earth group. We made it a point not to be clearly organized or directed by some old, tired formula from the top, find some good people with the right idea, and let them move ahead their way.   Friends of the Earth is rooted in powerful idea that the Earth needs friends. (150 Words)

5月に咲く “つつじ” Azalea  の ea  と“ふじ” Wisteria の ia 及び X'mas  時期に咲く Poinsettia の  ia は大きな丸 (Circle)  の中に点 (dot) を打ちます。 これは、昨年、説明済みの Korea  の ea とか Piano の ia  などと同じです。 Area, Creation, Initiate, Appreciate なども同じ方法を使います。  また、Colors 名の中で、 Violet の io は大きな丸の中に小さな丸を書いて表わします。これは Long i [ai]  の 後に来る母音 (Vowels) の場合です。即ち、Violin, Lion, Diary, Diet, などもこの方法を使います。
